NAVINE MURSHID
Dr. Navine Murshid is a political scientist with a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, USA (2010). Her expertise is in South Asian politics, specializing in issues of citizenship, migration, refugees, and ethnic conflict. Her research focuses on the marginalization of Bengali Muslims in India and Bangladesh, the political economy of refugee crises, and the role of identity in shaping political outcomes. Dr. Murshid is the author of India's Bangladesh Problem: The Marginalization of Bengali Muslims in Neoliberal Times (Cambridge University Press, 2023) and The Politics of Refugees in South Asia: Identity, Resistance, Manipulation (Routledge, 2013). Her current research is on Rabindrik sensibilities among middle-class Bangladeshis. Her research also focuses on the Rohingya refugee population in Bangladesh and the political economy behind regimes of protection and the selective and strategic sympathy that is afforded to refugee. Her work has appeared in prominent academic journals like Asian Survey, the Journal of Asian Studies, and Journal of Interpersonal Violence, as well as popular media outlets like The Washington Post, The Hindu, and The Daily Star.
Dr. Murshid is a sought-after speaker and commentator, having presented her research at numerous conferences and universities worldwide. She has also made frequent appearances on television and radio programs, including the BBC Bengali Service, Deutsche Welle, and Bangladesh Television. Her expertise and insights have been recognized through various fellowships and grants, including the American Institute for Indian Studies Senior Fellowship and the Richard Fenno Dissertation Field Research Grant.
She is currently a Professor at North South University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and holds a tenured Associate Professor position at Colgate University in New York.
